MY JERSEY GRAVEYARD…….The Curse Continues

-David S.-

I have terrible, just terrible luck that follows me whenever I get a new jersey!    I did publish a post like this a year ago, but the list continues to grow !!

THE CURSE (including football) :  EVERY TIME I GET A NEW JERSEY-BOOM!- THAT PLAYER GOES DOWN IN FLAMES!!!!!!

Last Christmas I got a few football jerseys. We all know, they aren’t cheap.  Robert Griffin III, Aaron Rodgers, and Russel Wilson are added to my collection – BOOM!  –   RGIII tears his ACL snd Aaron Rodgers  breaks his collarbone.  A few years ago the Green Bay Packers had a running back named Ryan Grant.  I bought his jersey and got his autograph! So excited, then he has a horrible ankle injury and was never the same!  I also have a Clay Matthews shirt, which my mom tries to snag.   Guess what!?!?! He breaks his thumb!!!!!!!!!

That’s just football… my cursed luck is even worse with baseball!

Doug Melvin, Brewers GM, makes a clutch trade to acquire C.C. Sabathia in 2008.  Out of pure excitement I had to buy a jersey!  Then, BOOM!,  he’s gone…..  Rickie Weeks has a dominating all-star season and gets a nice contract.  I thought it was safe to get his jersey, but no…oh, no.  Injury prone and unproductive!  Same thing happened with Yovani Gallrado! I get the Brewers had a blockbuster trade to receive Cy Young winner Zack Greinke???  He gets traded to L.A. -Another useless jersey.  Remember when the Brewers had Casey McGehee?  He played like a total Beast!!!  I try to shake things up and go for the new guy, since my luck with veterans stinks.  Buy his jersey…he then stinks!  I mean he was so awful-GONE!  Same thing with Mat Gamel.  Gets hurt two years in a row and the Cubs picked him up off of waivers.  I thought I’d be safe with Brewer favorite, Corey Hart. Wrong!  Last winter I was so excited to get his shirt!  Then….season-ending knee surgery and becomes a free agent!  As soon as I get a John Axford jersey; he performed poorly and got traded!  Prince Fielder left Milwaukee!  I literally got a Norichika Aoki shirt during the last home game in Milwaukee….BOOM! -gone!

My favorite player as a kid, J.J. Hardy, was a total idol to me!  For my birthday my brother got me a retro 1980s Hardy jersey. It was sweet!  Shortly after my birthday, he gets traded to the TWINS for Carlos Gomez!  My friend Kyle gave me a Carlos Gomez shirt.  He got hurt that week and was out a few weeks.  Taylor Green , eager rookie hopeful…hip surgery!  Favorite player David Wright gets puts on the DL days after I get his jersey in Cooperstown, NY.  He then gets plunked in the head against the Brewers!

Ryan Braun…….that’s all I’m gonna say…

RUSSEL WILSON IS THE ONLY SAFE ONE!! It’s only a matter of time…

For Christmas I’m asking for an Andrew McCutchen jersey.  SORRY in advance to Pittsburgh fans everywhere.

PERHAPS I SHOULD CHANGE MY JERSEY PREFERENCE TO CAREERS I WANT ENDED?!?!?!?!? So…any career that you would like to see ended?

OM”G”s

-David S.-

The Brewers have really been cursed with some horrible luck this past week.  The injuries seem to be mounting.

  • Mat Gamel tore his ACL and is most likely out for the season.
  • Carlos Gomez has a left hamstring strain and is day-to-day.
  • Alex Gonzalez tore his ACL in his right knee and he’s out for the year.

Please, Gallardo, stay healthy!!

Buying a Jersey…A Kiss of Death

-David S.-

Right know I don’t know if I want to ever buy another Brewer jersey in my life.  Whenever I do, something bad happens or the player gets traded.  Literally a few days ago I bought a Mat Gamel shirt and guess what happened…he’s out most likely  for the season.   And before last season I bought a Corey Hart shirt and then he goes and gets hurt and he was out for over a month.  A few years ago my favorite player was J.J. Hardy and my brother bought me a retro Brewer jersey of Hardy for my birthday.  Believe it or not J.J. Hardy got traded and I was sooooooo angry.  In 2008 I got a C.C. Sabathia and a Yovani Gallardo shirt.   Then Gallardo gets hurt and C.C. goes to the Yankees.  Then in 2011 I got a Greinke shirt.  He would get hurt and miss several starts. I also got a Casey McGehee T-shirt, then he started stinking up the place all season and then BOOM, he’s gone.

I don’t get my luck at all.  Basically whenever I buy a jersey something bad happens.  As you may know my favorite player is the underdog Taylor Green and he recently got called up to the Brewers.  I leave you with this question……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Should I get a Taylor Green jersey?????????

Brew Crew Dominates Cards 6-0

Yes….I got to see the best sight of my life.  The Brewers dominated the Cards 6-0.  I loved watching Zack Greinke fool almost every batter he faced.  He looked like a Cy Young pitcher right away.  Corey Hart smashed 2 home runs with 3 rbis.  The Brewers crushed the ball and couldn’t be stopped.  I like the way Mat Gamel is playing.  He has a lot better defense than Fielder and a very solid bat.  Adam Wainwright looked pretty good for the Cardinals after missing all of 2012 with Tommy John surgery.  Adam only let off 2 runs.  Once again though, they couldn’t stop David Freese from getting a multi hit game.  Hopefully this is one of many Brewer wins to come.

FAN Firsts, Flops and Favorites!!!!

Sorry Sports Fans …….I haven’t posted because I had a Strepp infection and then got a concussion playing basketball against a caveman type center.  My mom always says, “There is nothing less christian than Catholic school basketball!”  The caveman won that battle, but he’ll be washing my car and mowing my lawn someday.

Anyhow, I wanted to share my experiences from The Brewers fan festival,  Brewers On-Deck.  It’s  an annual meet, greet and autograph event held at a Milwaukee convention center.  It was sooooooooooooooo fun!    I got tickets as a Christmas present and I was thrilled to death.  So, my “Fan First” meeting was with Nyjer Morgan,  A.K.A., Tony Plush came up to me to chat and gave me a “high five”.   I got on T. V. (I was the good looking one) with him and there was a mob of people following Nyger.  So I joined in the fun.  It was crazy.  This guy was hilarious running all over.  He grabbed a microphone and would interview random people and just do bizarre  things like chowing down on someone’s nachos.  He was  great to the fans.       Crazy fun…….or maybe just plain crazy………(my gramps is a psychiatrist and thinks you may want to go back on your meds…..I’m just sayin…)

“Fan Flop” Alert – Newly acquired Aramis Ramirez,  took this intro opportunity to demonstrate to awesome Milwaukee fans what a complete arrogant, snotty jerk he is.  Ramirez seemed irritated and barely acknowledged people that waited in line and PAID for his autograph.  Hey Ramirez, show some respect to the people of this state and to the game that gave you your fame.   Lastly, get over yourself!!!

Mr. Taylor Green and Bleacherboy

“Fan Favorites”  – The highlight of my day was meeting my favorite player, Tayor Green.  I told him that he was my favorite Brewer and his face lit up.  He looked at me, smiled and seemed sincerely  grateful.  He gave me his autograph and took the time to talk.  I felt like he could remember what it was like to be a kid who loved baseball.  He seemed kind and genuine to all those that greeted him  –  So…Big Shout Out to T.G.!!!!!   My “spidey senses” tell me that Taylor will have a bright future.  I look forward to seeing him play this season.  Honorable mention also goes to Alex Gonzalez and Martin Maldonado, two young players that were humble and happy to see their fans. ( “Flops” –  some of the handlers that overmanaged the access to players and weren’t too friendly)

Mr. Gantner teaching me about "The Weapon"

“Legends” – It was great to see Stormin Gorman Thomasand get his signature.  Truly  a stand up regular guy.  I also had the honor of speaking toBrewer great, Jim Gantner.  He ran an instructional clinic then took the time to talk to me about the “weapon”.   Mr. Ganter said that when he played second base he would throw the ball, a.k.a. -the weapon, during a double play right at the baserunner’s head to make him duck.  He went on to tell me that when I’m not pitching, and I play third base – this approach is very effective.  Thanks Mr. Gantner for talking to me like an old friend.

So there you have it.  The “circle of life” in  Brewer baseball…….Rookies and young guys happy to get paid to do what they love-playing ball; the Ramirez types with big egos that have lost perspective; and the veterans that want to share their knowledge and  are gratefull to have been there………and a kid who can’t wait for the season to start!
