-David S.-

During this seemingly endless offseason I picked up a nice baseball novel.  I received “Shoeless Joe” as a Christmas present and read away.  This book is the inspiration for the movie, “Field of Dreams,” which I thought was amazing.

The book was great!  I absolutely loved it.  It was a perfect combination of baseball, dreams and family.  I really liked this book because it’s more than just baseball being played (like anybody needs more than b-ball.)  For example, many Mike Lupica books are just playing a selected sport, and somewhat shallow, other than being “deeper” if you know what I mean.  I can’t find any cons to this book.  The main character, Ray Kinsella, went on many baseball journeys to fulfill the dreams of others.  It takes place in an all American corn field in Iowa while bringing back players/legends from the golden age of baseball.   I don’t want to spoil it for you.  One thing I found very interesting was that the author, W.P Kinsella, has the same last name  as the main character.  So, I would like to research this to see if there is more to it.

I think the book and movie are as good as the other.  A first!!  Books are usually always better.  So, don’t just sit on the couch and for God’s sake get off the video games.  Instead,  this is just an outstanding book for baseball lovers and a great way to spend your time while waiting for Opening Day!
