I have terrible, just terrible luck that follows me whenever I get a new jersey! I did publish a post like this a year ago, but the list continues to grow !!
THE CURSE (including football) : EVERY TIME I GET A NEW JERSEY-BOOM!- THAT PLAYER GOES DOWN IN FLAMES!!!!!!
Last Christmas I got a few football jerseys. We all know, they aren’t cheap. Robert Griffin III, Aaron Rodgers, and Russel Wilson are added to my collection – BOOM! – RGIII tears his ACL snd Aaron Rodgers breaks his collarbone. A few years ago the Green Bay Packers had a running back named Ryan Grant. I bought his jersey and got his autograph! So excited, then he has a horrible ankle injury and was never the same! I also have a Clay Matthews shirt, which my mom tries to snag. Guess what!?!?! He breaks his thumb!!!!!!!!!
That’s just football… my cursed luck is even worse with baseball!
Doug Melvin, Brewers GM, makes a clutch trade to acquire C.C. Sabathia in 2008. Out of pure excitement I had to buy a jersey! Then, BOOM!, he’s gone….. Rickie Weeks has a dominating all-star season and gets a nice contract. I thought it was safe to get his jersey, but no…oh, no. Injury prone and unproductive! Same thing happened with Yovani Gallrado! I get the Brewers had a blockbuster trade to receive Cy Young winner Zack Greinke??? He gets traded to L.A. -Another useless jersey. Remember when the Brewers had Casey McGehee? He played like a total Beast!!! I try to shake things up and go for the new guy, since my luck with veterans stinks. Buy his jersey…he then stinks! I mean he was so awful-GONE! Same thing with Mat Gamel. Gets hurt two years in a row and the Cubs picked him up off of waivers. I thought I’d be safe with Brewer favorite, Corey Hart. Wrong! Last winter I was so excited to get his shirt! Then….season-ending knee surgery and becomes a free agent! As soon as I get a John Axford jersey; he performed poorly and got traded! Prince Fielder left Milwaukee! I literally got a Norichika Aoki shirt during the last home game in Milwaukee….BOOM! -gone!
My favorite player as a kid, J.J. Hardy, was a total idol to me! For my birthday my brother got me a retro 1980s Hardy jersey. It was sweet! Shortly after my birthday, he gets traded to the TWINS for Carlos Gomez! My friend Kyle gave me a Carlos Gomez shirt. He got hurt that week and was out a few weeks. Taylor Green , eager rookie hopeful…hip surgery! Favorite player David Wright gets puts on the DL days after I get his jersey in Cooperstown, NY. He then gets plunked in the head against the Brewers!
Ryan Braun…….that’s all I’m gonna say…
RUSSEL WILSON IS THE ONLY SAFE ONE!! It’s only a matter of time…
For Christmas I’m asking for an Andrew McCutchen jersey. SORRY in advance to Pittsburgh fans everywhere.
PERHAPS I SHOULD CHANGE MY JERSEY PREFERENCE TO CAREERS I WANT ENDED?!?!?!?!? So…any career that you would like to see ended?
Here are some of the early season phenoms this year. All stats are of May 18. I only chose hitters. I will be doing another article about pitchers soon to come. I left out the household names because they are already stars.
Jean Segura and Carlos Gomez
It’s been a pretty ugly year for my Brewers. I mean they are currently below the Cubs! Did you read that…BELOW THE CUBS!!!! There has been two bright spots that broke out this year. Jean Segura and Carlos Gomez have been on a tear. The Brewers took a risk and signed Gomez to an extension and so far it has paid off. Jean Segura has exceeded expectations at every aspect of the game. Gomez and Segura have been bouncing up and down for the lead of batting average in the NL. Hopefully this guys can keep it up.
Jean Segura: 54 hits 7 HR 18 RBI .351 BA
Carlos Gomez: 51 hits 6 HR 18 RBI .352 BA
How could I leave out the NL leader of home runs. Justin Upton of the Atlanta Braves has returned to his old star form. He had a decent year last year, but he’s back to ferocious Justin Upton. He has really been showing his Brother B. J. who has been struggling.
Justin Upton: 41 hits 14 HR 28 RBI .285 BA
James has been nothing more than subpar in his entire career. He joined the Rays for a new start and seems unstoppable! He is currently second in the race for the batting title. I don’t know if James can keep it up, but it’s been a great start.
James Loney: 46 hits 3 HR 21 RBI .371 BA
A rumor going around is that center fielder of the Rangers, Josh Hamilton may end up a Brewer once he reaches free agency. The Brewers do have an incentive that might just work.
He will probably be looking for something over 5 years and over $100 million dollars. Some teams may be hesitant to sign due to drug and alcohol abuse, resulting in a smaller deal than expected. This could be a very interesting Free Agent.
The Brewers do need a strong left-handed hitter and a MVP type like Hamilton may be the guy. The Brew Crew’s current center fielder isn’t anything great in Carlos Gomez. The main incentive for Josh to come would be Johnny Narron. He is currently the hitting coach for the Brewers. He was Josh’s mentor and personal hitting coach back in Texas. They have known each other their whole lives, their relationship goes way back. Johnny has helped Hamilton not only as a coach, but also as a person. He has helped him stay out of drugs and trouble. I know Josh would love to get reunited with Narron. I see this being a pretty good incentive for him to come here to Milwaukee. Don’t see why he wouldn’t want to come. The Brewers look like they really could be a great team next year!!!
Could you imagine this line up:
1. Norichika Aoki
5. Aramis Ramirez
WOW, POWER HOUSE. Just think about a Braun, Hamilton, Ramirez, Hart in a row. This looks like one of the best lineups in baseball, could be unstoppable if they played like they did at the end of the year. Weeks, Aoki, and Segura are also VERY good hitters. The only weakness I could see is the pitcher, unless Yovani Gallardo is pitching.
I really don’t see why not we couldn’t see him in a Brewer uniform, unless he goes for some ludacris deal.
The Brewers have really been cursed with some horrible luck this past week. The injuries seem to be mounting.
- Mat Gamel tore his ACL and is most likely out for the season.
- Carlos Gomez has a left hamstring strain and is day-to-day.
- Alex Gonzalez tore his ACL in his right knee and he’s out for the year.
Please, Gallardo, stay healthy!!
