Rick Monday Saves the American Flag

-David S.-

On April 26, 1975, two protesters rushed onto the field with an American flag during a Dodgers – Cubs game.  The two protesters stopped in center field and tried to light the flag on fire, which was soaked in lighter fluid.  The right fielder for the Chicago Cubs, Rick Monday, saw this happening.  He made a heroic move to charge toward the men. Luckily, the first match was blown out by the wind.  This gave Rick time to courageously save the American flag from being burned as a second match was being lit.  Even though this didn’t happen on the Fourth of July, this goes down as one of, if not, the most patriotic acts in sports history.  Well done Rick, well done. . .  Way to make America proud!

Way to make America proud Rick!

Let’s Review

My friend Kyle and I decided to review some thimgs about the MLB season as we hit the all star break.  Kyle’s writing is in blue and mine is in black.  Here it is.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT AT THE ALL STAR BREAK

PHILLIDELPHIA  PHILLIES-    THE FRONT RUNNER TO WIN THE NL EAST AT THE BEGGINING OF THE SEASON IS IN LAST PLACE RIGHT NOW. TURN IT AROUND PHILLIES!
MIAMI MARLINS-SPENT OVER A HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS IN THE OFFSEASON TRYING TO GET A LOT BETTER, BUT THEY ARE JUST AS BAD.  THEY WERE VERY EXPECTED TO BE GOOD.

2 BIGGEST SURPRISES AT THE BREAK

WASHINGTON NATIONALS- SUPPOSED TO BE A PRETTY BAD TEAM AND BE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE DIVISION, TURNS OUT NOT, ENDED UP WITH MASTERFUL PITCHING AND CLUTCH HITTING.
BALTIMORE ORIOLES-EVERY YEAR YOU SEE THEM IN THE BOTTOM OF THE DIVISION.  THE RAYS, YANKEES, AND RED SOX OWN THE TOP, BUT NOT THIS YEAR. BALTIMORE IS IN 2ND PLACE AND HAS RECENTLY STRENGHTHENED THEIR LINEUP WITH THE AQUISITITION OF JIM THOME.
WASHINGTON NATIONALS- PREDICTED TO BE THE “CHOP LIVER” OF THE EAST AGAIN THIS YEAR  IS IN FIRST PLACE! THERE PITCHING HAS BEEN THERE STRONG BACKBONE HOLDING THE TEAM TOGETHER THIS YEAR.

CARLOS ZAMBRANO- THE 20TH RANKED MARLINS DEFFENSE HAS BEEN FILLED WITH ERRORS THIS YEAR……… IM SUPRISED CARLOS ZAMBRANO HAS NOT LOST HIS TEMPER YET!!

WORST STAT OF THE YEAR SO FAR

RICKIE WEEKS-  HE’S BATTING .199 AND IN MY PERSPECTIVE, A STRIKEOUT KING!!!!!
LOS ANGELES DODGERS-THE DODGERS WENT 66 CONSECUTIVE INNINGS WITH OUT TAKING 1 LEAD! THE DODGERS ARE STILL A GREAT TEAM AND ARE STILL IN IT BUT THIS WAS A TERRIBLE STAT

BEST STAT OF THE YEAR SO FAR

CARLOS RUIZ- HE HAS NEVER BEEN A GREAT HITTER, BUT THIS YEAR HE HAS FOUND HIS STROKE WITH A GREAT.348BATTING AVERAGE
RYAN BRAUN- RYAN BRAUN HAS HOPEFULLY SILENCED THE STEROID CRITICS A BIT BY POPPING 24HOME RUNS, I  THAT  SOME MINDS WILL BE CHANGED BECAUSE HE’S PUTTING UP BETTER NUMBERS WITH OUT STEROIDS. HALL OF FAME VOTERS SHOULD REALLY LOOK AT THIS.

AL MVP

JOSH HAMILTON-WE BOTH AGREE.  HAMILTON HAS HAD GREAT NUMBERS FROM THE GET GO.  ONE OF HIS HIGHLIGHTS THIS YEAR WAS HIS 4 HOME RUN GAME. HE SHOULD DEFINITELY GET THIS AWARD.

NL MVP

Andrew McCutchen-   WE BOTH AGREE.  ANDREW IS JUST GETTING BETTER AND BETTER EACH YEAR. RIGHT NOW HE LEADS THE LEAGUE WITH A .362 BATTING AVERAGE.
